The world was relieved to hear of the agreement and the temporary ceasefire in the Middle East. However, hopes for peace were brutally verified by reality.

This morning, just a few hours after the official announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, a series of extremely alarming incidents occurred on the Iranian island of Lavan. An oil refinery located there — one of vital importance to the economy — was the target of a massive attack. This incident raises serious doubts about the sustainability of the recently reached compromise and threatens to reignite one of the most dangerous conflicts of our time. The entire situation is causing great concern among the international community, which is closely monitoring developments in the Persian Gulf with great tension.

According to reports from foreign media, the incident was not an single event, but a carefully planned series of strikes. Initially, the target was a pier belonging to an offshore oil company, which was hit first. This was a clear warning signal that triggered an immediate response from the security services on the island. Shortly thereafter, a missile struck in the immediate vicinity of the refinery itself. This incident made immediate action and the activation of emergency procedures imperative. It was decided to carry out a rapid and complete evacuation of all personnel on the facility’s premises. As it later turned out, this decision prevented a massive human tragedy. The peak of the attack occurred at exactly 10:56 a.m. local time. It was at that very moment that the main section of the Lavan refinery was directly hit. The explosions were extremely loud, and thick clouds of black smoke rose above the entire facility, visible from a distance of several kilometers. The Iranian national company responsible for oil distribution and refining officially confirmed these reports, calling the incident a cowardly attack in its statement. Numerous firefighting units and specialized rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they are still battling the flames and attempting to bring the situation under control. Thanks to the efficient evacuation of employees, fortunately no fatalities have been reported so far, which is essentially the only piece of good news coming out of the region on this tragic day.

Just a few hours before the attack on the refinery, a historic and long-awaited two-week ceasefire was announced, which was intended to provide valuable time for peace negotiations. Among other things, the agreement called for the restoration of normal shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Unfortunately, today’s attack has drastically undermined this fragile stability. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the strike on Lavan Island. Political experts from around the world are currently debating whether this was a deliberate and planned act of sabotage aimed at completely derailing peace talks, or perhaps a rogue operation by one of the many armed groups in the region. The consequences of today’s events could prove devastating for global markets. We are already receiving very disturbing reports of renewed military action by Iran. Media reports indicate renewed attacks on selected military targets, suggesting that the dangerous spiral of conflict may once again and irrevocably spiral out of control. The global energy infrastructure in that region is currently exposed to the highest possible danger. Since this morning, Kuwait’s air defense has been repelling intense attacks by Iran. Twenty-eight drones struck oil facilities and power plants in the southern part of the country, causing significant material damage to energy infrastructure and desalination facilities.
